MY STORY

I have always been a lover of movement. Ever since I walked into my first dance class at the age of 5. I felt that dance and movement have always come to me naturally and I knew from that first class that I would be doing this for the rest of my life.

That was over 35 years ago (yikes!) and I haven’t stopped moving since. I always knew that there was something special about the way people moved, and I have always had an inquisitive mind, always asking why? how come? (you can imagine my mum LOVED that!), It is this inquisitive nature that drove the natural evolution from dancing professionally to the study of Pilates and human movement.

I was one of the lucky ones to start my Pilates career not through an injury or condition, but from a love of movement. I was given my first ‘gig’ back in 2007 teaching Reformer and Mat Pilates at health clubs, studios and hotels throughout Sydney. I couldn’t get enough…I was hooked.

This led to more courses, more sessions, more questions, more uncertainty, more study, more fun, more confidence and more knowledge.

I was very lucky to open my first studio with my best friend and fellow dance partner Julia and we hit the ground running. We specialised in Matwork and Barre at the time, but I wanted more, so I decided to get myself a Reformer, Tower and a Chair, and create a Pilates program. I was happy with the studio, and we were doing well. But as my nature would have it…. I wanted more!

So, I decided to formalise my training and did the research, and who better to inspire, educate and guide me than Sally Anderson and PilatesITC. PilatesITC was by far the front runner for me and I decided to enrol in the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction. I didn’t bother with RPL or Direct Credit, I wanted to learn from scratch – all over again. Was I mad??

Fast forward a few years, and I am now proud to say that after completing my Cert IV in Training and Assessment, I have been inducted as PilatesITC faculty delivering Matwork and Diploma courses throughout Australia and Asia. I was lucky to be part of the team that brought PilatesITC courses to Singapore and have delivered PilatesITC training in some of the best studios there.

As you have probably guessed, I wanted more. Deciding to enrol in the Advanced Diploma of the Pilates Method was a no-brainer.

A major highlight for me was being selected to present a Matwork class to over 80 of my nearest and dearest of the Australian Pilates scene at the 2018 Pilates on Tour in Sydney, presented by Balanced Body - what a thrill!

So here I am; teacher, trainer, assessor and presenter – but most importantly, student. My clients and students inspire me to learn more, be creative, have fun and continually strive to develop and grow.
